Probopass is the Compass Pokémon, the evolved form of Nosepass, and is a Rock/Steel-type introduced in Generation IV. It generates powerful magnetism from its large body and controls three smaller 'Mini-Noses' (units detached from its body) using iron sand, which also forms its distinctive mustache-like and eyebrow features. Like its pre-evolution, its main nose tends to point toward magnetic north, and it uses compacted iron-sand stones as a means of attacking prey.
The Japanese name ダイノーズ (Dainōzu) combines 大 (dai, meaning 'big' or 'great') with 'nose' (ノーズ, nōzu), literally evoking a 'big nose,' fitting for its enormous nose-like central feature. The English name 'Probopass' merges 'proboscis' (referring to a prominent nose or snout) with 'compass,' reflecting both its huge nose and its magnetic, direction-finding nature.
