History

Skuntank is the Poison/Dark-type evolution of Stunky, introduced in Generation IV (the Sinnoh region). True to the skunk it resembles, it attacks prey by spraying a foul, poisonous fluid, which it can fire from the tip of its tail with notable range. Its stench is so potent that it sometimes cannot tolerate the smell of its own fluid, occasionally abandoning prey it has already defeated.

Name & meaning

The Japanese name スカタンク (Sukatanku) combines the loanword 'skunk' with 'tank' (タンク), referencing both the skunk it is based on and its sturdy, tank-like bulk. It may also evoke the Japanese slang 'sukatan' (スカタン), meaning a blunder or something foolish/worthless, hinting at its crude nature. The English name 'Skuntank' is a straightforward blend of 'skunk' and 'tank,' mirroring the Japanese construction.
