Mamoswine is a dual Ice/Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IV as the final evolution of Swinub and Piloswine, evolving when Piloswine learns the move Ancient Power. Known as the Twin Tusk Pokémon, it is a large, shaggy mammoth-like creature whose prominent ice tusks shrink in warm climates and grow back when it gets cold. According to its lore, the species thrived during the ice age and was once thought to have died out as the climate warmed, making it a living relic of a frozen prehistoric era—a connection strongly reinforced in the Hisui region of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, where its cold-adapted constitution lets it flourish.
The Japanese name マンムー (Manmū) combines 'mammoth' (マンモス, manmosu) with 'oo'/'oo-' suggestions of weight and a pig-like grunt; the final ムー (mū) also evokes the sound a large beast makes and ties to its swine nature. The English name 'Mamoswine' is a portmanteau of 'mammoth' and 'swine,' directly reflecting its prehistoric, woolly-mammoth-meets-boar design. Both names emphasize its identity as an ancient, tusked, hairy beast.
