Braixen

Braixen is the Fire-type middle evolution of the Kalos starter line, evolving from Fennekin and later into Delphox. It is known as the Fox Pokémon and keeps a small twig tucked into its bushy tail, which it draws and ignites through friction to wield like a wand or torch. The lit twig can be used both as a weapon and as a means of signaling allies, hinting at the more magical, witch-like motif fully realized in its final evolution, Delphox.

The Japanese name テールナー (Tērunā) combines the English loanword 'tail' (テール, tēru) with an element likely drawn from 'fire' (often associated with 'burner' or possibly the French/English suggestion of flame), referencing the fire-producing twig kept in its tail. The English name 'Braixen' is a portmanteau that blends 'brais' or 'braise' (evoking 'braise/embers,' related to French braise meaning glowing coals) with 'fox' or 'vixen,' fitting its identity as the Fox Pokémon. Both names emphasize its fox-like form and the fiery twig it wields.
