Quilladin

Quilladin is the Grass-type middle evolution of the Kalos starter Chespin, classified as the Spiny Armor Pokémon. Despite its tough, spike-covered shell that can deflect even powerful attacks, it has a notably gentle and kind temperament and avoids initiating fights. It toughens its lower body and hardens its armor by charging into others of its kind, before eventually evolving into Chesnaught.

The Japanese name ハリボーグ (Haribōgu) combines 針 (hari, meaning 'needle' or 'spine') with 'bōgu,' derived from the English word 'bulwark' or possibly the Japanese 防具 (bōgu, meaning 'protective gear/armor'), reflecting its spiny, defensive nature. The English name 'Quilladin' merges 'quill' (referring to its sharp spines) with 'paladin' (an armored knight), evoking an armored warrior covered in protective spikes. Both names emphasize its theme of a thorny, armored defender.
