Meowstic is a Psychic-type cat Pokemon introduced in Generation VI (the Kalos region), evolving from Espurr. It is notable for its pronounced gender differences: males and females have distinct appearances, movesets, and roles, with males leaning defensive and supportive while females are more offensive. The species conceals immense psychic power within the eye-like organs hidden beneath the fur on its ears, and when these flaps are opened it can unleash energy strong enough to pulverize objects—power it most fully exerts when protecting itself or those it cares for.

The Japanese name ニャオニクス (Nyaonikusu) combines the cat onomatopoeia 'nyao/nyaa' (the Japanese equivalent of 'meow') with a suffix evoking 'psychic' or 'unique,' suggesting a mysterious feline. The English name 'Meowstic' similarly fuses 'meow' (the cat's cry) with 'mystic,' reflecting its psychic, enigmatic nature. Both names emphasize its identity as a cat-like Pokemon with hidden mystical powers.
