Zygarde is a Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation VI (Pokémon X and Y), forming the Aura Trio alongside Xerneas and Yveltal as the trio's order-themed guardian. It monitors the balance of the Kalos ecosystem and is said to reveal greater power when that balance is threatened. Zygarde exists across multiple forms tied to its Cells and Cores—10% Forme, 50% Forme, and the immensely powerful Complete Forme—reflecting how its components assemble in response to danger.

The Japanese name ジガルデ (Jigarude) is the same as the English 'Zygarde,' transliterated into katakana. 'Zygarde' likely combines 'zygote' (from Greek 'zygotos,' meaning 'joined' or 'yoked together,' fitting its theme of cells uniting to form different states) with 'garde,' from the French 'garder' meaning 'to guard' or 'to watch over,' reflecting its role as a guardian of the ecosystem. The name thus evokes a being assembled from many parts that protects the natural order.
