Fennekin

Fennekin is the Fox Pokémon and one of the three starter Pokémon of the Kalos region, serving as the Fire-type choice. It is known for carrying a twig in its mouth that it munches on like a snack, and for puffing scorching hot air—reportedly reaching around 200 degrees Celsius—out of its large ears to intimidate foes. It evolves into Braixen and then Delphox, gaining a more mystical, psychic-fox character as it matures.

The Japanese name フォッコ (Fokko) is generally understood to combine 'fox' (referenced via the English-derived 'fo'/'fox' sound) with 火 (ka/ko, 'fire'), reflecting its identity as a Fire-type fox; the small 'ッ' (sokuon) doubles the following consonant for a punchy, cute-sounding name. The English name 'Fennekin' is derived from 'fennec' (the fennec fox, a small desert fox known for its large ears) combined with 'kin,' suggesting a small or young creature. Both names emphasize its fox nature and large, expressive ears.
