Froakie

Froakie is the Water-type starter Pokémon of the Kalos region, introduced in Generation VI (Pokémon X and Y). As the Bubble Frog Pokémon, it secretes delicate bubbles from its chest and back that cushion blows and protect its sensitive skin. Despite its carefree, happy-go-lucky demeanor, it stays alert and observant of its surroundings, and it evolves into Frogadier and then Greninja, the latter becoming famous as Ash's notable partner in the anime.

The Japanese name ケロマツ (Keromatsu) combines 'kero' (ケロ), the Japanese onomatopoeia for a frog's croak (similar to 'ribbit'), with 'matsu' (マツ), likely from 'awa' wordplay or referencing bubbles, though it may also evoke the playful sound-based naming common to Froakie's line. The English name 'Froakie' blends 'frog' with 'croak,' capturing both its amphibian identity and its vocalizations.
