History

Trubbish is the Trash Bag Pokémon, a Poison-type introduced in Generation V (the Unova region), said to be born from a bag stuffed with trash, with the form of a knotted garbage bag spilling its contents. It belches toxic, foul-smelling gas, and if inhaled, the fumes can cause a person to be bedridden; according to Pokedex lore, Galarian Weezing actually relish and feed on these gases. Trubbish tends to live near humans, drawn to areas where garbage accumulates, and it evolves into Garbodor.

Name & meaning

The Japanese name ヤブクロン (Yabukuron) is built from 破く (yabuku, 'to tear/rip') and 袋 (fukuro, 'bag'), evoking a torn or ripped garbage bag, with the '-on' ending giving it a creature-like sound. The English name 'Trubbish' is a portmanteau of 'trash' (or 'rubbish') and the suffix '-ish,' reflecting its identity as a living bag of garbage. Both names emphasize its origin as discarded refuse given life.
