History

Landorus is a Legendary Ground/Flying-type Pokémon (Incarnate Forme) and the leader of the Forces of Nature trio from the Unova region, alongside Tornadus and Thundurus. Known as the Abundance Pokémon, it is revered by farmers for enriching the soil and bringing bountiful harvests in the wake of the wind and lightning incarnations' storms. In folklore it acts as a peacemaker, descending to calm the conflicts between its two companions and leaving prosperity in its path. Like its kin, it can change into a more powerful Therian Forme via the Reveal Glass.

Name & meaning

The Japanese name ランドロス (Randorosu) combines the English word 'land' (ランド, rando) with a suffix シャドロス-style ending shared by its fellow Forces of Nature, derived from the Russian word 'грозный' (groznyy, 'menacing/terrible') seen across Tornadus (トルネロス) and Thundurus (ボルトロス). The English name 'Landorus' likewise fuses 'land' with the '-urus' suffix that unites the trio. The 'land' element reflects its association with the earth and fertile soil.
