Talonflame is the final evolution of Fletchling, a Fire/Flying-type raptor Pokemon introduced in Generation VI (Kalos region). The Japanese name ファイアロー (Faiarō) combines the English loanword 'fire' (ファイア, faia) with 'arrow' (アロー, arō), evoking a fiery, arrow-swift bird of prey.
