Chesnaught V

Chesnaught is the final evolution of Chespin, one of the Kalos region's first-partner Pokémon, and is a Grass/Fighting type. Known as the Spiny Armor Pokémon, it sports a thick, spiked shell of armor capable of withstanding tremendous force — flavor text notes it could endure a bomb blast when guarding with its fists. It is fiercely protective by nature, often shielding its allies by throwing itself in front of danger and using its bulk to absorb powerful attacks.

The Japanese name ブリガロン (Burigaron) is generally understood to combine elements relating to its bristly, armored nature — likely drawing on words like 'bristle' or a tough/heavy quality — with 'marron,' the French word for chestnut, fitting its chestnut-based Grass design. The English name 'Chesnaught' fuses 'chestnut' with 'juggernaut' (and evokes 'knight'/'onslaught'), emphasizing its heavily armored, unstoppable tank-like presence. Both names reinforce its identity as a spiny, fortress-like Grass starter.
