History

Ferroseed is a Steel/Grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V, resembling a metallic, spiked seed or burr. It dwells in mossy caves, where it anchors itself to walls and absorbs minerals, with enzymes from moss helping its protective spikes grow large and sturdy. When threatened, it can launch its spikes to defend itself before fleeing, and it later evolves into Ferrothorn.

Name & meaning

The Japanese name テッシード (Tesshīdo) combines 鉄 (tetsu, meaning 'iron') with 'seed,' reflecting its nature as an iron-bodied seed Pokémon. The English name 'Ferroseed' follows the same logic, derived from the Latin 'ferrum' (iron) plus 'seed,' directly mirroring the Japanese construction.
