“It attacks using the claws on its tail. Once locked in its grip, its prey is unable to move as this Pokémon's poison seeps in.”
Skorupi is the Scorpion Pokémon, a Poison/Bug-type introduced in Generation IV (Sinnoh). It is a stealthy predator that burrows into sand to ambush prey, using its razor-sharp, venomous claws and a poison-tipped tail to subdue targets, though it is noted to be sluggish in cold temperatures. It evolves into Drapion, at which point it loses the Bug typing, becoming a fearsome pure Poison-type predator.
The Japanese name スコルピ (Sukorupi) is derived from 'scorpion' — likely drawing on the Latin/Italian 'scorpio' or English 'scorpion' rendered into katakana. The English name 'Skorupi' is an adaptation that retains nearly the same phonetic form, simply swapping the leading 'S' sound and dropping the final vowel to give it a snappier, more creature-like spelling. Both names plainly evoke the scorpion arthropod it is based on.
