History

Shinx is a quadruped Electric-type Pokémon resembling a lion cub, classified as the Flash Pokémon. It generates electricity by flexing and shaking its muscles, and when in danger its fur shines brightly to dazzle foes while it flees. As noted in its flavor text, it can be aggressive and difficult to tame despite its small size, and it evolves into Luxio and later the regal Luxray, introduced in the Generation IV Sinnoh region.

Name & meaning

The Japanese name コリンク (Korinku) is generally understood to combine 'ko' (子, meaning 'child' or 'young one') with 'rinku,' which evokes the English word 'link'—a nod to the electric currents that 'link' or connect, and possibly to a young lion cub. The English name 'Shinx' draws on 'shine' or 'sphinx,' referencing both its electric/flashing trait and its feline, lion-like body. Both names emphasize a small, youthful electric feline.
