“People call this kind of Tauros the Blaze Breed due to the hot air it snorts from its nostrils. Its three tails are intertwined.”

History

Tauros is the Wild Bull Pokémon, a muscular bovine known for its three tails, which it whips against its own body to rouse itself into a frenzied, charging state. It is famously aggressive and will rush at anything that moves, only calming once it has nothing left to attack. In the games it is notably associated with the Safari Zone and the Kanto region, and the Galarian populations described here are even more volatile, refusing to let people ride them.

Name & meaning

The Japanese name ケンタロス (Kentauros) derives from 'Centaur' (ケンタウロス, the half-human, half-horse creatures of Greek mythology), evoking a powerful hoofed beast, and it also echoes 'Taurus' (ταῦρος), the Greek/Latin word for 'bull.' The English name 'Tauros' comes directly from this same root, 'tauros' meaning 'bull' in Greek, which also names the zodiac sign Taurus. Both names emphasize its identity as a bullish, charging quadruped.
