History

Cacturne is the Scarecrow Pokémon, a Grass/Dark-type that evolves from Cacnea and inhabits arid desert regions. Resembling a scarecrow-like cactus, it remains dormant during the scorching day to conserve moisture and becomes active at night when temperatures drop. Known for its menacing nature, Cacturne are said to move in groups, trailing weary desert travelers and patiently waiting for them to collapse from exhaustion before closing in.

Name & meaning

The Japanese name ノクタス (Nokutasu) combines the Latin 'nox/noctis' meaning 'night' (reflecting its nocturnal, desert-stalking behavior) with 'cactus,' since it is a Cactus Pokémon. The English name 'Cacturne' likewise blends 'cactus' with 'nocturne' (a musical piece or theme associated with the night), again emphasizing its activity in the dark. Both names therefore fuse the ideas of a cactus and the night.
