The English name 'Hawlucha' merges 'hawk' (alluding to its bird-like, aerial nature) with 'lucha' (again referencing lucha libre and the luchador wrestlers it resembles). Both names emphasize its dual concept as a fighting bird and a flamboyant masked wrestler.
