“Using air of -150 degrees Fahrenheit, they freeze opponents solid. They live in herds above the snow line on mountains.”
Bergmite is an Ice-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VI (Kalos region), classified as the Ice Chunk Pokémon. It dwells on mountains covered in perpetual snow, where it freezes water vapor from the air to form a protective ice helmet and body covering for defense. When cracks appear in its frozen armor, it simply refreezes more vapor to repair the damage. Bergmite evolves into Avalugg, a much larger Pokémon resembling a glacial mass.
The Japanese name カチコール (Kachikōru) likely combines カチカチ (kachikachi), an onomatopoeia describing something hard, frozen, or rock-solid, with コール which may evoke 'cold' or the sound of ice. Together it conveys the image of a frozen, hardened chunk of ice. The English name 'Bergmite' is formed from 'iceberg' (a large mass of floating ice) combined with the diminutive suffix '-mite' (suggesting something small), fitting its appearance as a small creature encased in ice.
