“This Pokémon can conceal itself in any shadow, so it went undiscovered for a long time.”
Marshadow is a Mythical Pokémon of the dual Fighting/Ghost type introduced in Generation VII (Pokémon Sun and Moon). It can sink into and hide within the shadows of other beings, allowing it to study their movements and copy their fighting techniques, which is why it long evaded discovery. Reclusive and elusive by nature, it is considered one of the most secretive Pokémon and possesses a powerful signature move, Spectral Thief, and a special Z-Move, Soul-Stealing 7-Star Strike.
The Japanese name マーシャドー (Māshadō) is a fusion of the English words 'martial' (as in martial arts) and 'shadow,' reflecting both its fighting prowess and its shadowy nature. The kana break down as マー (mā, evoking 'mar-' from martial) plus シャドー (shadō, a direct transliteration of 'shadow'). The English name 'Marshadow' preserves this same blend, combining 'martial' and 'shadow' nearly identically to the Japanese.
