Alolan Raticate

Raticate is the evolved form of Rattata, a Normal-type Mouse Pokémon known for its constantly growing fangs, which it must wear down by gnawing on objects like logs and even brick. Its whiskers help it maintain balance, and as the flavor text notes, its webbed hind feet let it swim and hunt prey in rivers. Territorial and surprisingly fierce for a common rodent, Raticate travels in packs and is famously associated with Blue/Gary's rival team in the original games and anime.

The Japanese name ラッタ (Ratta) is derived from the English word 'rat,' rendered in katakana, possibly combined with a sense of largeness or an intensified form fitting its status as the evolved, bigger rodent. The English name 'Raticate' blends 'rat' with 'eradicate' (and possibly 'predicate' or 'masticate'), evoking its aggressive, gnawing nature and ability to destroy with its powerful teeth.
