History

Dartrix is the Grass/Flying-type middle evolution of the starter Pokémon Rowlet, evolving later into Decidueye, and was introduced in the Generation VII games set in Alola. Known as the Blade Quill Pokémon, it can fling the razor-sharp feathers in its wings with deadly accuracy at targets behind it. It is notably vain and fastidious about its appearance, fussing over its plumage and becoming unsettled when its feathers get dirty, which can throw it off its game.

Name & meaning

The Japanese name フクスロー (Fukusurō) combines 'fukurō' (フクロウ, meaning 'owl') with 'surō' (スロー), borrowed from the English word 'throw,' referencing how it hurls its sharp feathers like blades. The English name 'Dartrix' fuses 'dart' (evoking thrown, pointed projectiles) with a suffix reminiscent of 'strix,' the Latin word for owl, tying it to the same owl-and-blade concept as its Japanese name.
