History

Remoraid is the Jet Pokémon, a small fish known for spitting water from its mouth with remarkable accuracy, capable of hitting moving targets from great distances. It often attaches itself to the underside of Mantine in a symbiotic relationship, feeding on its host's scraps while offering protection. Famous for its precise aim, Remoraid can shoot down prey such as Burmy from tree branches, and it evolves into the multi-armed Octillery.

Name & meaning

The Japanese name テッポウオ (Teppouo) combines 鉄砲 (teppou, meaning 'gun' or 'firearm') with 魚 (uo, meaning 'fish'), giving a sense of 'gun-fish' or 'firearm-fish,' which references its ability to shoot water with precision. It may also evoke the real-world archerfish (テッポウウオ, teppouuo), which spits water to knock prey off branches. The English name 'Remoraid' derives from 'remora' (a fish that attaches itself to larger marine creatures like sharks) blended with 'raid' or possibly 'aid,' nodding to its symbiotic relationship with Mantine.
