About this card

This is a Common Basic Pokémon card of Beldum (card #59) from the 'Chaos Rising' set in English. As a Common card, it would typically feature standard artwork of the small Steel/Psychic-type Pokémon, though specific stats and artwork details cannot be confirmed.

History

Beldum is a Steel/Psychic-type Pokémon and the first stage in the line that evolves into Metang and then the pseudo-legendary Metagross. Its body is composed of magnetic material, and rather than blood, magnetic forces are said to circulate through it, allowing it to attach itself to magnetic surfaces and communicate with others of its kind via brain waves. In the games it is famously associated with the Hoenn region's Steven Stone, who gifts one to the player, and it is known for being difficult to catch in the wild as it tends to keep using Take Down.

Name & meaning

The Japanese name ダンバル (Danbaru) is generally understood to derive from 'dumbbell' (ダンベル, danberu), reflecting Beldum's metallic, iron-ball appearance and weighty steel typing. The English name 'Beldum' likewise echoes 'dumbbell,' rearranging the syllables, and may also evoke 'bell' or metallic ball-like connotations to suit its single floating spherical form.
