History

Deoxys is a Mythical, alien Psychic-type Pokémon said to have formed when a space virus underwent DNA mutation upon exposure to a laser beam from space. It is highly intelligent and wields powerful psychokinetic abilities, and can fire lasers from the crystalline organ on its chest, which serves as its core or 'brain.' Notably, Deoxys can shift between four Formes—Normal, Attack, Defense, and Speed—each rearranging its body and altering its stats, making it a uniquely adaptable and enigmatic Pokémon.

Name & meaning

The name 'Deoxys' is derived from 'deoxyribonucleic acid' (DNA), reflecting its category as the 'DNA Pokémon' and its theme of mutation and genetic forms. The Japanese name デオキシス (Deokishisu) is simply the katakana transliteration of this same word, breaking down phonetically as de-o-ki-shi-su, with no separate Japanese meaning. Both names point to deoxyribose, the sugar component of the DNA molecule, fitting Deoxys's biology as a creature born from mutated space DNA.
