History

Stunky is the Skunk Pokémon, a small purple mammalian creature introduced in Generation IV (the Sinnoh region) that defends itself by spraying a foul-smelling fluid from its rear. According to Pokédex lore, the stench is so potent it can be detected from far away and may even cause temporary memory loss in those who inhale it. It evolves into Skuntank, becoming a more imposing and aggressive Poison/Dark-type predator.

Name & meaning

The Japanese name スカンプー (Sukanpū) combines 'skunk' (スカンク, sukanku) with プー (pū), an onomatopoeic suggestion of flatulence or a foul puff of air, fitting its odor-based theme. The English name 'Stunky' is derived from 'stunk'/'stink' combined with 'skunk,' directly evoking both the animal it is based on and its powerful smell.
