Snivy is a Grass-type Pokemon introduced in Generation V (the Unova region) and one of the three starter Pokemon a Trainer can choose at the start of their journey. It is known for its calm, intelligent, and proud demeanor, and it photosynthesizes through its tail to harness sunlight as energy. When healthy and exposed to sunlight it grows more capable and quick, but a drooping tail signals it is unwell. It later evolves into Servine and then Serperior.
The Japanese name ツタージャ (Tsutaaja) combines 蔦 (tsuta, meaning 'ivy' or 'vine') with a softened form of 蛇 (ja/hebi, meaning 'snake'), reflecting its identity as a vine-covered serpent. The English name 'Snivy' is a portmanteau of 'snake' and 'ivy,' mirroring the same two concepts as the Japanese name. Both names emphasize its dual nature as a plant-based reptilian Pokemon.
